Overview
Experience Madison's most unique holiday tradition at the Madison Christmas Capers on Saturday, December 6, at 4 p.m. on Main Street. This event re-enacts a nearly century-old custom from the Great Depression when Doc Hughes would toss live chickens from his drug store roof with prize tags attached, providing a much-needed Christmas boost for the community.
Today, rubber chickens with prize vouchers are tossed from the old Hughes Drug store, giving attendees a fun chance to win gifts from local businesses. The event also features Christmas carols by the Madison City Community Orchestra and free hot chocolate and cookies from the Rotary Club.
